Im a professional cake decorator and do use fresh flowers on cakes, but they are carefully selected and sourced from reputable suppliers. Most florist DONT use pesticide-free flowers as they are a lot more expensive than organically grown, so before you slap those beauties on your cake... CHECK! some flowers ARE poisoneous. If you press a layer of plastic wrap on the cake first, then you can lay flowers on it without any worries. I have never heard of anyone getting ill from the flowers on the cake. Wedding cake designers have been using fresh flowers on cakes for years, and we’ve never heard of an incident in which fresh flowers on a wedding cake were responsible for making someone ill.
